Here’s a cool idea to make money

The beautiful thing about the Internet is that of all the millions who get on it, some are bound to see your site. And a few of those who come to your site will subscribe to the idea you are selling.

This is exactly what whoever created Donate For Nothing is counting on.

Turn your smartphone into a wifi hotspot

This is not a product review site, but I can’t help but talk about this software package that I stumbled on to today. Someone came up with the bright idea of writing a software which converts your wifi enabled smart phone into a wifi hotspot. This allows your laptop or other wifi devices such as a PSP to access the Internet through your phone’s data connection.

While a lot of PDAs do allow Internet Connection Sharing from laptops, it usually requires a proprietary software to be installed and requires the phone to be connected to the laptop either through Bluetooth or USB.

Requirements include Windows Mobile 5 and up, Wifi enabled PDA, Data Plan, 15 MB space, and Internet Sharing enabled. Before I forget, the software is called WMWifiRouter. Now, if only someone came up with an open source version of this.

Very simple idea, and that is why it’s cool

I have a lot of occasions where I am not sure whether an error that I am getting on a website is because the site is down or is it because there is a problem with my Internet connectivity to that site.

Well someone thought that enough people have that problem and hence they created this site: http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

Very simple and elegant interface:

Down For Everyone or Just Me?

Alternatively, you could just type the site you want to check in the url: http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/sitetocheck.com

I wonder how they ensure that their path to the site being checked is always working.
