One flaw in the newest iPod Shuffle

Apple has released the latest version of the Shuffle. Take a look at the picture:

shuffle

Yes, it really is that small. Less than 2 inches tall and about 0.3 inches thin. With no buttons on it. So how do you get it to change volume or song. Well, Apple has moved those controls to the headphone cable, along with the controls for the new multilingual voice over system (complete feature list here). And here lies the flaw with this iPod.

The Flaw:

I have owned a number of iPods over the last few years. Not on a single iPod that I have owned have I continued to use the original head phones supplied by Apple. I always replace them with my own headphones or earphones. With this guy, that will not be possible anymore. And I am sure I am not alone in this.

It’s really worse than that. My shuffle, the little square one, spends most of its time plugged into a big radio while I work on construction sites. It’s cheap and looks pretty hard to break

I also plug it into the radio in my car and into my Bose Wave at home.

When I’m wearing the ear bud thingys while doing any kind of activity where the wire could get caught or maybe get tangled in a power tool and rip my ears off my head, it’s clipped on my pocket or where ever, and I run the wire inside my sweatshirt.

How am I supposed to control it if the wire is in my coat?

    This new one is useless.

so stupid these are pretty much designed for people doing sports, well i can’t even walk without the apple headphones falling out on the few unfortunate weeks when i’ve been without my shures

you guys are right on target. I have always hated the iPod headphones and used my own.

    This one is useless.

I was thinking about getting one of these, but the included apple buds just do not fit in my tiny ears, let alone stay in while I workout. I always use sony replacements – so its a 2nd gen shuffle for me while apple still stocks them.

    Totally agreed Emma.
